A Liturgical Music cum Training Seminar with live Demos was held at St. Joseph’s Church on August 9, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. coordinated by the Secretary of the Archdiocesan Liturgy Committee consisting of Frs. Christopher Pereira, Alban D’souza and Lawrence D’Souza. Fr. Dominic Vas welcomed this team and all those present followed by a short opening prayer.
Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life” (LG 11) and this Eucharist is incorporated in the Liturgy that is a part and parcel of every Catholic’s life. The seminar conducted by the Archdiocesan Liturgy team gave an insightful glimpse into the mind of the Church concerning Liturgy in general and Church music in particular. Fr. Christopher explained to us the parts of the Eucharist, and spoke at length about the role of different units like the lectors, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist and the Choir in facilitating a prayerful experience for the congregation. He also answered questions posed by the members attending the seminar. Dr. Valerie pointed how Eucharistic celebration could be made more meaningful. She stressed on the point that Eucharistic Celebration is centered around one theme of the Paschal Mystery of Christ.
After a short break Fr. Alban took over and explained the role of ‘Music’ in the Liturgy by giving several demos on both the guitar which he played and on the piano which was played by Clinton. He cautioned us about the technicalities of musical instruments. All in all it was a very informative session for all the members who made it a point to attend the seminar.
Fr. Roshan then thanked Dr. Valerie, Fr. Christopher and Fr. Alban for this enriching and vibrant seminar followed by the closing prayer.
